I love Ireland!!

I just spent 3 wonderful weeks in Sligo, Ireland. I feel very lucky to have been able to have the opportunity to do this. I learned so much about myself and the people at RSW. I have truly been changed by this experience and I feel blessed to have been able to work with adults with special needs. At first, I was very nervous because I had never worked with this population before. I was welcomed with open arms the very first day. Not only were the employees kind but the service users were as well. They were so interested in me and they asked so many questions. I could have spent 3 more weeks here with them.

The irish countryside is breathtaking. I would have to say that the Cliffs of Moher and the Sligo Abbey were my favorite sites. There aren’t words to describe how beautiful the Cliffs are. The pictures I took of them don’t begin to capture the true beauty of them. I felt at peace in the Abbey. I found myself sitting by the altar and having a lot of self-reflection. I enjoyed everywhere we went and I truly enjoyed the irish hospitality.

This was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I left a piece of my heart in Sligo and RSW. I believe everyone should travel abroad if the opportunity presents itself. Luckily it did for me. I absolutely love this country and I would love to go back if I ever get the chance.

Gra’ Go Deo (Love Forever)

Goodbye Ireland!

What an amazing day I had today! It was my last day at my field placement. It was at Rosses Sheltered Workshop in Sligo. I spent 3 weeks working with adults with special needs. They were the most fulfilling and amazing 3 weeks of my life. It was so hard to say goodbye to all of the service users and service providers. Everyone was so welcoming and supportive. I was blown away everyday by how loving they all were. I felt welcome from the beginning and I wish I could spend another 3 weeks here.

I woke up everyday wanting to go. I was excited to hear about their lives and they were just as excited to hear about mine. They were so wonderful on my last day. They got me a cake and made me a card. I will keep the card forever and I will always think of what a wonderful time I had here. I will be forever changed by everyone at RSW. I am leaving a piece of my heart in Sligo and at RSW.

We had dinner at the most amazing place for our farewell dinner. We went to Markree Castle. We got dressed up and had an amazing dinner. It was a great way to end the most enriching experience of my life!
